XXXIII Arts and Crafts Fair 2017 @ Recinto Ferial de Tenerife
    Dec 6 – Dec 10 all-day
XXXIII Arts and Crafts Fair 2017 @ Recinto Ferial de Tenerife | Santa Cruz de Tenerife | Canarias | Spain

Every year the Canarian Government puts on a superb Arts and Crafts Fair, shared between Tenerife and Gran Canaria. (The 2016 Fair was held in Gran Canaria, hence this year it returns to the Recinto Ferial de Tenerife.)

It is the largest meeting of the Canarian crafts sector attended by craftsmen and women from all over the Canary Islands: potters, bookbinders, jewellers, turners, weavers, dressmakers, glass artists, smiths, perfume manufacturers, feltworkers and more.

The fair promotes local artisans and their quality work, whilst providing visitors to the fair a variety of superb one-off hand made items for purchase. (Just in time for Christmas.)

This is a fantastic fair and well worth a visit for anyone in the area during the festival (between the 6th and 10th December 2017) and for those looking for more personal gifts for Christmas.

    Opera 2017 – Verdi’s Requiem @ Auditorio de Tenerife
    Dec 16 @ 7:30 pm

The premier of Verdi’s (Messa de) Requiem was performed on the first anniversary of the death of Alessandro Manzoni, (an Italian Poet whom Verdi greatly admired), on the 22nd May 1874, in Milan, Italy.

At the time of its premiere, the Requiem was criticized by some as being too operatic in style for the religious subject matter (a Catholic Mass). It is now rarely performed as a liturgy, but instead in ‘concert’ format, like this performance at the Auditorio de Tenerife.

2018 Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival @ Santa Cruz de Tenerife | Canary Islands | Spain

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is considered the second most popular Carnival after of course, the infamous Rio de Janeiro Carnival in Brazil. It is in fact, for this reason that Santa Cruz de Tenerife is twinned with Rio de Janeiro.

Every year, thousands of people take to the streets of Santa Cruz to celebrate carnival, which was declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest back in 1980.

The Wednesday before the actual carnival weekend, the Queen of Carnival is chosen. This gala is so popular that it is now broadcast live.

Along with the official carnival procession, locals take to the streets for over a week, dancing to all genres of live music and superb DJ’s – an event simply not to be missed.

(The competition to find the best event poster is now underway – once the winner has been crowned and the poster is released – we will share it with you here)
