    First performed on the 11th March 1867 in Paris, Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlo is a French Opera. Set over five acts the grand-opera is based on the history of Carlos, Prince of Asturias. Despite Carlos’ betrothal to Elisabeth of Valois (and their falling in love), it was demanded by the two warring houses, that Elisabeth marry Carlos’ father, Philip II of Spain.

    Along with the many processions, religious events and activities organised all over Tenerife during Easter Week, Adeje plays host to a historical re-enactment; The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ,

    The last hours of Jesus’ life along with his Crucifixion are acted out by over 300 local volunteers on Good Friday. This event draws larger and larger crowds every year, so much so, that the event is now televised.

    The Tenerife Opera will be performing the famous Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart opera called The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte), adapted for family opera, a superb way to introduce children to classic music performance and opera.

    Mozart’s Magic Flute premièred in Vienna, just 3 months before his death, on the 30th September 1791.

    The Magic Flute is fairy-tale style Opera: The Night Queen entices a Prince to rescue her daughter from the captivity of a ‘sorcerer’ (high priest). But the Prince learns of the Priests vision and the untruths spoken by the Night Queen and seeks to join with the high priests group. After trials of initiation (to join the priests group), the Prince succeeds and joins the ‘captive’ princess, whilst the Night Queen and her cohorts are vanquished.

    An exciting new Operatic event for children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old throughout May.

    The children will work together on creating and performing an opera, with a focus on expressions through a variety of forms, like music, art, literature and performing arts. This workshop is all about developing skills and for the children to “appreciate, enjoy, value and produce art in an atmosphere of cooperation and respect”.

    The town of Santa Cruz de Tenerife celebrates The Fesitval of Crosses on the 3rd May 2018.

    Many streets are lined with crosses, where locals participate in creating the most colourful crosses, from flowers and fruits amongst other items; a prize is given for what the Ayuntamiento judges to be the best decorated cross.

    Live local music events will take place throughout the day with a focus on traditional Canarian music.

    Celebrated every year on the 13th May is the Romería de La Virgen del Buen Viaje y San Telmo. (A Romería is a religious pilgrimage.)

    The day before the Romeria, a procession of the images of San Telmo and La Virgen del Buen Viaje is carried out between the hermitage of San Telmo and the Church of La Concepción.

    2018 Tenerife Walking Festival @ Plaza de Europa

    The 2018 Tenerife Walking Festival brings together hikers from all over the continent. Whether you are part of a group, family or solo hiker, there are a number of walks, all departing from Plaza de Europa in Puerto de la Cruz at 8.30 every morning during the festival.

    The official languages spoken for the festival are Spanish, English, German and French.

    Walkers can pay a small extra fee for a picnic lunch to be provided during the walks.

    Groups will be no larger than 25 participants including the hike leader.

    Registration will cost €25 with a small fee on top for each walk in which you wish to participate. You must register to join this event. Click here for more information.

    During Corpus Christi tons of Sand and Salt are used to create colourful ‘Carpets’ that cover the main street, Calle Grande during the festival.

    Various groups participate in creating these stunningly colourful displays.
